ISLAMABAD, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) — Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, here on Thursday, saying the all-weather friendship between Pakistan and China is unique and covers various fields and levels.
Sh. Sharif noted that he is looking forward to participating in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin and the commemorative events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
Islamabad hopes to work with Beijing in promoting the “version 2.0” of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), deepening cooperation in agriculture, mining, energy and resources, aviation and space, information technology, infrastructure construction, etc., and in reviving Pakistan’s socio-economic development, the chief minister said.
The Prime Minister said Islamabad attaches great importance to the safety of Chinese workers in Pakistan and will make every effort to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens and projects.
Wang Yi, in turn, said that Beijing welcomes Sharif's visit to China and looks forward to cooperation with Pakistan and all SCO parties to promote the "Shanghai spirit" and turn the summit into an event of friendship, solidarity and rich results.
Calling China-Pakistan relations unprecedented, the minister said no matter how the international situation develops, the traditional friendship between China and Pakistan will remain unshakable and unbreakable. Building a closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future is aimed at deeply intertwining the future and destinies of the two countries, promoting common development and prosperity, and working together towards modernization, he added.
China has always been Pakistan's most reliable partner and strongest supporter, Wang Yi said. The two sides need to accelerate the construction of CPEC "version 2.0", focus on agriculture, industry and mining, promote mutually beneficial cooperation in Gwadar port, industrial parks, connectivity and high technology, comprehensively expand Pakistan's independent development capabilities and enhance its resilience to external challenges, he said.
The Foreign Minister also stressed that China supports Pakistan in resolutely combating terrorism in all its forms and creating a safe and favorable environment for national development and bilateral cooperation.
