TIANJIN, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) — The "SCO Meeting" – the 2025 Conference on Ophthalmology Cooperation and Peoples' Rapprochement and the Establishment Ceremony of the SCO Ophthalmologists' Union were held in Tianjin, north China, on Thursday, marking the entry of regional ophthalmology cooperation within the SCO into a new stage of institutionalization and regularity.

Chairman of the SCO Union of Ophthalmologists and Secretary of the Party Committee of Tianjin Medical University Yan Hua said that the union will establish a comprehensive, multi-level and interdisciplinary platform for cooperation and exchange, conduct deep and effective interaction in such areas as joint treatment of complex ophthalmological diseases, establish a system for training ophthalmological experts, introduce advanced medical technologies, and improve the public health system in the field of ophthalmology, which will promote the development of eye health care in the SCO countries.

After the opening ceremony, 12 ophthalmologists from 10 countries and regions around the world exchanged views and discussed useful research and practical experiences of their countries and regions in ophthalmology-related fields such as education, clinical practice, scientific research and international cooperation.

The event, which brought together dozens of ophthalmology experts and scholars from SCO countries and regions, was jointly organized by Tianjin Medical University, the Foreign Affairs Office of the Tianjin Municipal People's Government, the Tianjin Municipal Health Committee, the Tianjin Municipal Education Committee and the Beijing Ophthalmological Society. -0-
