Moscow, August 21 /Xinhua/ — The presence of foreign military forces on the territory of Ukraine is unacceptable for Russia, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a press conference on Thursday following talks with Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.

"As the West's discussions with the Ukrainian side show, all these plans are connected, in essence, with providing guarantees through foreign military intervention in some part of Ukrainian territory. And I very much hope that those who are hatching such plans, either they are simply trying to attract attention to themselves, or I hope that they understand that this will be absolutely unacceptable for the Russian Federation and for all sensible political forces in Europe," TASS quotes him as saying.

S. Lavrov believes that unilateral initiatives on security guarantees for Ukraine are a futile undertaking. He recalled the security guarantees that were agreed upon at the initiative of the Ukrainian delegation in Istanbul in April 2022. “We support them, we supported them then and we support them today, because they are truly based on the principle of collective security, on the principles of indivisible security,” he added.

The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry also expressed hope that when it comes to signing future agreements, the issue of the legitimacy of the signatory from the Ukrainian side will be resolved. –0–
