KABUL, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, met with Afghan Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani here on Wednesday.
China has always pursued a friendly policy toward Afghanistan, advocated equality for all countries and adhered to the principle of non-interference in the country's internal affairs, Wang Yi said.
He stressed that China respects the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Afghanistan, as well as the development path chosen by the Afghan people, their unique national conditions and religious traditions, adding that China is ready to provide all-round support to Afghanistan's aspiration for development and revival.
Beijing supports Kabul's policy aimed at prioritizing economic development and is ready to contribute to its development and revival, Wang Yi noted.
China will continue to oppose unreasonable pressure on Afghanistan and the freezing of its assets, supports the early resumption of joint patrols in the Wakhan Corridor to maintain peace and tranquility in the border areas, and calls on Afghanistan to take resolute measures to curb the activities of the East Turkestan Islamic Movement and other international terrorist groups to ensure the security of China-Afghanistan cooperation, he said.
