TBILISI, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) — The migratory bird watching season has started in Georgia's Adjara Autonomous Republic, the regional department of tourism and resorts said on Wednesday.

According to the department, bird migration observation has become one of the most actively developing areas of ecotourism in the region. Particularly popular is the so-called East Black Sea migration corridor – a section near Batumi, through which more than 1 million birds of prey fly annually.

Observation posts have also been established in Mtirala National Park and in the Chorokhi River delta in Khelvachauri Municipality.

Adjara ranks third in the world in terms of the number of migratory birds of prey, making it one of the most important centers of ornithological tourism and contributing to the growing interest of travelers and the scientific community. The bird watching season in the region has been held annually since 2012. –0–
