MINSK, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) — Presidents of Belarus and Iran Alexander Lukashenko and Masoud Pezeshkian signed a joint statement on deepening bilateral relations in Minsk on Wednesday, the press service of the Belarusian head of state reported.
The signing took place at the Palace of Independence in Minsk during the official visit of the Iranian president to Belarus.
The statement reflects the similarity of the parties’ positions on issues of bilateral, regional and international relations, and confirms the course towards the consistent intensification of traditionally friendly and strategic ties between the two countries.
During the talks with his Iranian counterpart, A. Lukashenko emphasized that Belarus views Iran as an important political and economic partner. “In recent years, through joint efforts, we have managed to achieve serious progress: we are rapidly developing cooperation in various areas that are a priority for both countries,” the Belarusian leader noted.
During the meeting between the two presidents, special attention was paid to the development of trade and industrial cooperation, investment cooperation, as well as the implementation of joint initiatives in areas such as science, technology and education.
M. Pezeshkian, for his part, stated that Iran is interested in developing comprehensive relations with Belarus. “We have reached a number of good agreements, discussed regional and international issues, and held consultations. We have common views and a common approach to many issues. I would like to confirm that Iran does not see any closed topics or restrictions in developing relations with Belarus,” he emphasized, assuring that his country will continue to cooperate with Belarus within the framework of BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and move towards creating a multipolar world.
Following the meeting, a package of documents on various areas of cooperation was also signed. In addition, Belarus and Iran agreed to conclude an agreement on strategic cooperation in the future. –0–
