BEIJING, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) — The National Flood and Drought Control Headquarters on Tuesday activated a Level 4 emergency response in response to expected heavy rainfall in Beijing and neighboring Tianjin City and Hebei Province.
Two working groups under the auspices of the above-mentioned headquarters have been formed and sent to Beijing and Hebei to assist in flood prevention and disaster relief, the Ministry of Emergency Management of China said.
Forecasters predicted heavy rainfall in parts of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region starting Tuesday, with extremely heavy downpours expected in parts of Beijing and Tianjin, as well as in central and northeastern Hebei province.
