BERLIN, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) — German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will travel to Washington on Aug. 18 to join Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other European leaders for talks with U.S. President Donald Trump, the German government said Sunday.
According to the statement, the trip serves as an “exchange of information” with D. Trump following his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which took place on August 15 in the US state of Alaska.
After the summit in Alaska, V. Zelensky announced that he would meet with D. Trump in Washington on August 18.
The statement noted that F. Merz is expected to discuss the current state of peace efforts. In addition, security guarantees, territorial issues and further support for Ukraine will also be discussed. –0–
