WASHINGTON, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) — Governors of three U.S. states are sending National Guard troops to Washington, D.C., after President Donald Trump said crime in the capital was out of control.

West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey announced Saturday that he would send 300 to 400 National Guard troops to Washington, D.C., at the request of President Donald Trump. The governor's office said in a press release that Morrisey had instructed the troops to support President Donald Trump's initiative to maintain security in the nation's capital.

Later Saturday, South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster said he would authorize the deployment of 200 National Guard troops from his state to Washington at the Pentagon's request, and Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said he would send 150 National Guard troops to the capital at the request, local media reported.

On Saturday, local media reported, citing two U.S. officials, that some National Guard troops deployed to Washington will begin carrying firearms to carry out their mission.

D. Trump announced Monday that 800 National Guard troops would be deployed to Washington to respond to a “public safety emergency” he declared in the District that day. –0–
