BEIJING, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) — Chinese authorities on Saturday extended warnings for heavy rain, torrential rain and geological disasters in several regions.
The National Meteorological Center issued a blue alert for downpours, forecasting heavy rain from Saturday to Sunday in parts of Jilin, Liaoning, Shandong, Hebei, Henan, Sichuan, Guangdong, Hainan and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
China's Ministry of Water Resources and the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) jointly issued a yellow alert for possible mountain torrents, noting a relatively high risk of such phenomena in parts of Shandong and Hainan provinces.
At the same time, the Ministry of Natural Resources of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Culture issued a yellow alert about the risk of geological disasters in certain places in the provinces of Hebei, Shanxi, Shandong, Yunnan and Shaanxi.
In addition, on Saturday evening, the MUK lowered the emergency response regime for emergency situations related to heavy rains from level 3 to level 4.
Local authorities in the regions covered by the warnings were ordered to take necessary precautions to minimize the impact of possible disasters.
