ACCRA, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) — A state funeral was held for eight victims of a helicopter crash in Ghana's capital on Friday.
Speaking at the funeral, Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama called the incident a disaster that had darkened the heart of the country, causing deep and acute pain that could not be brushed aside.
According to the head of state, the victims were true patriots who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty. J.D. Mahama approved posthumous promotions for the three crew members who died along with the five officials. He also expressed sympathy to the families and loved ones of the victims, assuring that the country would support their children in getting an education.
A military helicopter crashed in Ghana's Ashanti region on August 6, killing eight people. The victims included Defence Minister Edward Kofi Omane Boamah and Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed. –0–
