URUMQI, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) — Kashgar Prefecture in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and some cities and counties under it established new sister-city relations with five regions and cities in Uzbekistan on Saturday.

The relevant documents were signed at a conference on exchanges between sister cities in the field of cooperation and development, which was held within the framework of the 15th Kashgar Central and South Asia Trade Fair held in Kashgar.

In particular, sister city relations were established between Kashgar County and Kizirik District of Surkhandarya Region, between Kashgar City and Kattakurgan District of Samarkand Region and Fergana City in Fergana Region, between Shache County and Margilan City of Fergana Region, and between Zepu County and Kokand City of Fergana Region.

In addition, sister city agreements between two pairs of counties in Kashgar Prefecture and Laos were also signed at the event.

Thus, since the establishment of the first such partnership relations with the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region of Tajikistan in 2005, over the past 20 years the number of sister cities and sister regions between the Kashgar district and the territory under its jurisdiction and foreign countries has grown to 21 pairs. -0-
