NIAMEY, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) — Up to 23 people have been killed and 21 injured in Niger due to heavy rains this year, Ali Abdul Aziz, commander of the national fire brigade, told a press conference recently.

The rains also caused the collapse of 3,615 houses and the displacement of 5,855 families, affecting a total of 42,559 people, he added.
