BEIJING, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) — Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Friday stressed the need to firmly establish and implement the concept of "emerald waters and green mountains are priceless treasures" and called for writing a new chapter in building an ecological civilization in the new era.
Li Qiang, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at the opening ceremony of the main event marking National Ecology Day and a symposium on how to put the concept into practice.
The Premier said that this important concept provides scientific guidance for the harmonious coexistence of man and nature. He added that the concept offers Chinese ideas and solutions, and reflects China's contribution to global sustainable development and the construction of an ecological civilization.
Li Qiang noted that China's socio-economic development has entered a stage of high-quality development, characterized by an accelerated transition to an environmentally friendly and low-carbon economy. It is necessary to unswervingly follow the course, the priority of which is environmental protection and green development, the head of the Chinese government urged.
He pointed out that efforts should be made to improve the diversity, stability and sustainability of ecosystems, and resolutely promote the green and low-carbon transformation of industries, adding that it is extremely important to innovate the systems and mechanisms of ecological civilization.
"We must join hands with all parties to protect the ecological environment, address climate change and jointly promote global sustainable development," Li Qiang stressed.
According to the head of the Chinese government, efforts must be made to mobilize the whole society to take active actions to jointly build a beautiful China, making a greater contribution to the creation of a clean and beautiful world.
