BEIJING, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) — China has filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) against Canada's import restrictions on steel and related products, a spokesman for China's Ministry of Commerce said Friday.

According to the department, Canada openly ignores WTO rules by introducing tariff quotas on steel and discriminatory duties on products with “Chinese steel content.” These actions are a classic practice of unilateralism and trade protectionism, the Ministry of Commerce emphasized.

These restrictive measures not only violate China's legitimate rights and interests, but also undermine the stability of global production and supply chains in the steel industry, the department stressed, expressing "serious dissatisfaction and resolute protest" over such practices.

China's Ministry of Commerce called on Canada to immediately correct its wrong actions, abide by the rules-based multilateral trading system, and promote the sustainable improvement of China-Canada economic and trade relations. -0-
