UNITED NATIONS, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) — Israel's escalating attacks on residential areas in Gaza are causing a high number of casualties, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said Thursday.
According to him, over the past two days, airstrikes and shelling have intensified in some areas of Gaza City, and attacks are also continuing in Deir al-Balah and Khan Yunis.
“If Israel’s announced ground operation in Gaza City begins, thousands of families already in dire humanitarian conditions could be pushed into even greater dire straits,” OCHA said. “With 86 percent of the Strip currently under Israeli military action or eviction orders, humanitarian organizations lack access and the supplies to meet urgent needs at the levels they need,” it said.
