SEOUL, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) — South Korean President Lee Jae-myung will visit Japan to meet with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba later this month, the South Korean leader's office said Wednesday.

Presidential spokesman Kang Yoo-jung said at a press briefing that Lee Jae-myung will leave for a two-day visit to Japan on August 23 to meet with the Japanese prime minister.

The two leaders aim to strengthen the foundation for future-oriented bilateral cooperation, discuss ways to promote South Korea-Japan and South Korea-United States-Japan cooperation, and exchange views on regional peace and stability and other regional and global issues, the spokesperson said.

Following his trip to Japan, the South Korean president will pay a three-day visit to the United States to meet with US President Donald Trump on August 25. –0–
