BEIJING, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) — China takes an active part in global ocean governance within the United Nations system, Gu Wu, a spokesperson for China's Ministry of Natural Resources, said at a regular meeting of the China Economy Roundtable, a public discussion platform organized by Xinhua News Agency.
According to her, China is working to deepen cooperation in key areas with countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative and expand global partnerships. To date, China has signed maritime cooperation agreements with more than 50 countries and international organizations.
In addition, China has jointly established marine research centers, laboratories and other cooperation platforms with nine countries, and established regular maritime cooperation mechanisms with African, Southeast Asian and island countries, the official added.
China's industries such as port construction and aquaculture are steadily expanding into overseas markets, using diverse ocean development models to unlock the potential of the "blue economy," she concluded. -0-
