BISHKEK, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) — The 2nd International Kurak Festival dedicated to the traditional art of patchwork opened in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek on Monday.

The three-day event, which is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Information and Youth Policy of Kyrgyzstan, aims to preserve cultural heritage, as well as promote environmental practices and conscious consumption.

This year the festival has attracted 10 internationally renowned artists who will hold shows and workshops and exchange experiences in recycling textile waste.

On the first day of the festival, an opening ceremony was held with a parade of flags of participating countries and presentations by masters from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and other countries. Guests saw fashion shows inspired by the traditions of patchwork sewing.

On the second and third days of the festival, in addition to master classes, excursions, visits to museums, markets and a flash mob are also planned.

The organizers emphasize that the festival has become an important platform for intercultural exchanges and international cooperation in the field of preserving craft traditions and environmental culture. –0–
