ABUJA, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) — Nigeria will not change its stance against accepting deportees from the United States, Foreign Ministry spokesman Kimiebi Ebienfa said, adding that Africa's most populous country will never accept "additional baggage" to its existing socio-economic problems.

In an interview published by local newspaper Saturday Punch, K. Ebienfa said no amount of pressure from Washington could persuade Nigeria to reverse its decision to reject some foreign nationals deported from the US, some straight from prison.

"Even if other African countries accept deportees from the United States, Nigeria will not accept them," he said, adding that the country has its own problems.

Last month, Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar told local media that Nigeria, which has a population of more than 200 million, is unable to accommodate deported foreigners, especially those with potential criminal records. –0–
