BEIJING, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) — The Organization Work Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee has allocated funds totaling 32 million yuan (about 4.5 million U.S. dollars) for flood control and disaster relief in northwest China's Gansu Province and south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
The funds were allocated from party dues collected from CPC members and spent by the Organization Department on behalf of the CPC Central Committee.
The Organizing Department called for the allocated funds to be quickly directed to support party members, officials and local residents working on the front lines in flood control and relief efforts, as well as to help victims of natural disasters and repair educational institutions for party members.
Regional authorities are advised to make every effort to search for and rescue missing persons, evacuate and resettle victims, and minimize the number of casualties.
Officials are ordered to conduct thorough risk forecasting, step up efforts to identify and address vulnerabilities, and enhance emergency response and on-site monitoring.
Torrential rains caused torrential flows in Gansu Province from August 7 to 8, leaving 13 people dead and 30 missing as of Saturday afternoon.
From August 5 to 6, moderate to heavy rainfall occurred in some parts of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, with torrential rainfall and extreme precipitation observed in some places. –0–
