HARBIN, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) — The Harbin Marathon will be held on Aug. 31 in Harbin, capital of northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, according to the official website of the Harbin Municipal People's Government.
This year, the track and field competition has attracted a record number of participants: the total number of those who have applied will exceed 35 thousand people, of whom 15 thousand will go to conquer the full marathon distance of 42.195 km, and the remaining 20 thousand will try their hand at the less difficult half-marathon route of 21.0975 km.
The route's special feature is that it passes through iconic places in Harbin. Participants will overcome themselves, and at the same time the path along famous city monuments and architectural objects, discovering new facets of China's cultural heritage. In essence, each runner will make a unique musical and cultural journey around the city.
