BEIJING, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) — China's National Development and Reform Commission on Wednesday said it has allocated 100 million yuan (about 14 million U.S. dollars) from the central government budget to support flood relief efforts in southern China's Guangdong Province.
The funds will be used to restore damaged roads, water supply systems, hospitals and other key infrastructure and public services in the affected areas to speed up the return to normal operations and daily life, the department said.
Incessant rainfall in recent days has caused severe flooding in Guangzhou, Dongguan, Huizhou and Shanwei cities in Guangdong Province, prompting the National Disaster Prevention and Relief Commission to issue a Level 4 emergency response for the region on Wednesday.
According to the Guangdong meteorological station, precipitation will ease by August 7 and 8, and cloudy weather with high temperatures will set in in most parts of the province. –0–
