KUNMING, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) — The China-Laos Railway has carried more than 14 million tonnes of import and export cargo with a total value of over 60 billion yuan (about 8.4 billion U.S. dollars) since it was put into operation in December 2021, Kunming Customs said Wednesday.

In the first seven months of 2025, the volume of foreign trade cargo transported via the China-Laos Railway exceeded 3.43 million tons, and its value exceeded 15.4 billion yuan. Both figures increased by 6 percent and 41 percent year-on-year, respectively, while each reached new highs for the reporting period.

At present, the China-Laos Railway serves as a vital trade corridor, covering 19 countries including Laos, Thailand and Singapore. At the same time, the structure of transported goods is constantly optimized, and the range of imported and exported goods has expanded from more than 500 to over 3,600 items, and the dynamics of transportation remains high.

The China-Laos Railway, one of the flagship high-quality cooperation projects under the Belt and Road Initiative, was put into operation in December 2021. The 1,035-km railway connects the Chinese city of Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province, and the Lao capital of Vientiane. -0-
