BEIJING, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) — China on Wednesday issued a new set of rules ordering officials and cadres of departments across the country to hold fewer meetings and conferences, make short speeches, strictly control the number of documents compiled, and minimize the number of checks, inspections and assessments at grassroots levels.

The document, titled “Some Rules on Strictly Regulating Formality to Reduce the Burden on Grassroots,” was jointly distributed by the General Office of the CPC Central Committee and the General Office of the State Council. It aims to free grassroots cadres from bureaucracy and meaningless formalities, and is aimed at improving the long-term mechanism for reducing the burden on grassroots structures. -0-
