COLOMBO, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) — China donated emergency humanitarian aid to Sri Lanka on Tuesday.

The cargo included a variety of essential items, from tents and beds to generators and water pumps.

The provision of humanitarian aid aims to improve the living conditions of local communities displaced by the floods and support their response to future natural disasters.

Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong said that as a country with rich experience in disaster recovery and risk management, China can share valuable experience and advanced technologies with Sri Lanka to strengthen disaster resilience.

“China is willing to engage in more practical and in-depth cooperation with the Sri Lankan side in areas such as the exchange of satellite meteorological images, early warning of natural disasters, and disaster prevention and mitigation,” the ambassador stressed.

Sri Lankan Defence Minister Sampath Thuyakontha expressed gratitude to China for its timely assistance, stressing the importance of such partnerships as climate change increases disaster risks in the region. –0–
