Moscow to host mass races in honor of athletics' birthday

On August 6, Russia celebrates the birthday of track and field. In honor of the holiday, the capital's Department of Sports invites you to running events. Both beginners and experienced athletes can take part in them.

On August 10th it will take place "Run 2030", which will offer participants several distances to choose from: a morning half marathon (21.1 kilometers), an evening run at sunset (five kilometers) and a night run (10 kilometers). On August 24, you can run a 21.1-kilometer distance at the Luzhniki Half Marathon. Muscovites can attend running training sessions for free as part of the project "My Sports District"They are held at 20 project sites. "Summer in Moscow" on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Sundays (at the Luzhniki Olympic Complex there is an additional day – Thursday).

About four thousand people undergo sports training in track and field in the Moskomsport system on the basis of 10 institutions – these are the sports schools of the Olympic reserve "Physical Culture and Sports Association "Youth of Moscow", "Moscow City Physical Culture and Sports Association", "Moskvich", as well as the Moscow comprehensive sports schools of the Olympic reserve "South", "North", "West", "East", the Moscow comprehensive sports school "Zelenograd", the sports and education center "Sambo-70" and the Moscow Secondary Specialized School of the Olympic Reserve No. 1 (technical school) of the Moscow City Sports Department.

The capital's sports team for 2025 includes 523 athletes, and the Russian team – 168. In the current season, Moscow athletes have won 16 medals (six gold, six silver, four bronze) at the Russian championship.

In 2013–2022, Moscow acquired a modern sports infrastructure for track and field. The Center for Sports Innovative Technologies and Training of National Teams of the Moscow Sports Committee (6 Sovetskoy Armii Street) has an indoor multifunctional hall, the Medvedkovo Arena sports complex (1a Studeny Proezd, buildings 1–3) has open-air flat areas, the Moskvich Olympic Reserve Sports School (46/15 Volgogradsky Prospekt) has a football field with circular athletics tracks, the Na Inzhenernaya sports complex (5a Inzhenernaya Street) has an indoor athletics arena, and the Sputnik Arena sports complex (2 Kolumba Square, Zelenograd) has an athletics core with a football field, high jump and long jump sectors, and circular running tracks.
