BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) — China's Ministry of Water Resources and the China Meteorological Administration issued the highest "red" alert on Tuesday evening over the threat of mountain torrents as heavy rains continued in parts of the country.

According to the above-mentioned departments, there is a high probability of mountain torrents in the central and western regions of Guangdong Province (South China) from 8:00 p.m. on August 5 to 8:00 p.m. on August 6.

Both agencies also issued orange alerts for torrential rains in some other parts of Guangdong province and south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

It is noted that short-term heavy rains can trigger the formation of mountain streams in other regions as well.

Local authorities have been instructed to conduct close real-time weather monitoring, issue early warnings of possible flooding, prepare evacuation plans and take appropriate preventive measures to reduce risks. –0–
