WUHAN, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) — Former CEO of China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC) Li Yong was sentenced to 14 years in prison on Tuesday for accepting bribes.

The sentence was handed down by the Intermediate People's Court of Xiangyang City, Hubei Province, central China.

Li Yong was also fined 3 million yuan (about $420,368) and the illegal proceeds he received from the bribery will be confiscated and turned over to the state treasury.

During the trial, it was found that from 1996 to 2023, Li Yong abused his official powers in various positions to assist certain enterprises and individuals in matters such as agency services and product sales. In return, he received money and material goods from them totaling 67.94 million yuan.

Taking into account the defendant's sincere confession and repentance, as well as his active participation in the return of his illegally acquired property and other mitigating circumstances, the court passed a lenient sentence. -0-
