BEIJING, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) — China's Ministry of Water Resources on Sunday raised its emergency response to floods in northwest China's Gansu and Qinghai provinces to Level 3, the third-highest in China's four-tier disaster response system.

According to the forecast of the ministry and the China Meteorological Administration, many areas in the two provinces will face the risk of flash floods of the highest "red" level from 8:00 p.m. on August 3 to 8:00 p.m. on August 4.

The ministry has asked water departments in both provinces to closely monitor the rainfall situation on the ground, especially in high-risk areas including construction sites and valleys.

As the ministry emphasized, agencies must promptly warn authorities about potential risks in order to ensure the timely evacuation of residents from dangerous areas and maximize the effectiveness of flood prevention efforts. –0–
