BISHKEK, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) — The Salbuurun ethnofestival dedicated to the nomadic heritage of the Kyrgyz people was held in Bokonbaevo village on the southern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul on Saturday. The event attracted hundreds of guests from around the world.
The festival aims to popularize national culture, preserve the intangible heritage of nomads and develop cultural tourism. The organizers presented a rich program that united more than 15 thematic sites. Visitors saw a demonstration of the art of hunting with hunting birds, performances by berkutchi and falconers, Kyrgyz wrestlers, horse stuntmen, and also heard the epic "Manas" and folk music performed live.
The guests were particularly interested in the performances of archery masters, throat singing and demonstration of ancient Kyrgyz writing. In addition, an exhibition of hunting trophies, traditional bows, horse ammunition and handicrafts was organized.
"The festival has become a unique platform for getting to know the rich cultural heritage of the Kyrgyz people. We intend to hold it annually on the first Saturday of August, so that guests from other countries can plan their trips in advance," said one of the organizers, Sergei Glukhoverov. –0–
