Vladivostok, August 3 /Xinhua/ — An aftershock with a magnitude of 6.8 was recorded in Kamchatka, RIA Novosti reported on Sunday, citing the Kamchatka branch of the Federal Research Center of Natural Geology and Geophysics of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The tremors occurred at 17:37 local time, 279 km from the capital of the Kamchatka Territory, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The depth of the source is 25.9 km. A tsunami wave up to 19 cm high may approach Kamchatka after the aftershock.

“According to calculations by the Kamchatka Tsunami Monitoring and Warning Center, as a result of an earthquake that occurred in the Pacific Ocean, a tsunami wave no higher than 19 cm may approach the Aleutian Municipal District, no higher than 15 cm may approach the Ust-Kamchatsky Municipal District, and no higher than 3 cm may approach the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Urban District,” reads a message published by the Main Directorate of the Russian Emergencies Ministry for the region on its Telegram channel.
