GAZA, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) — The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said Israeli forces killed one of its workers and wounded three others in an airstrike on Sunday on the organization's headquarters in the southern Gaza Strip town of Khan Younis.
The group posted a video on social media X showing the “first moments” of an Israeli attack on its headquarters in Khan Yunis, which left the building on fire and the floors covered in rubble.
“One employee of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society was killed and three others were injured,” the statement said.
Eight Red Crescent workers, six Gaza Civil Defense staff and one UN refugee agency worker were killed in an Israeli attack on southern Gaza in March, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
Health officials in Hamas-controlled territory have reported more than 60,000 deaths in Gaza, mostly civilians, since the conflict began nearly two years ago.
Sunday's incident came two days after US Special Presidential Envoy for the Middle East Steven Witkoff visited a US-backed aid site in the Gaza Strip to inspect efforts to deliver food to the besieged Palestinian territory.
During Witkoff's visit on Saturday, protesters gathered in a Tel Aviv square, calling on the Israeli government to secure a ceasefire that would allow the return home of hostages held by Hamas and other armed groups in the Gaza Strip. –0–
