Tbilisi, April 1 (Xinhua) — Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and IMF Mission Chief Alejandro Heidenberg discussed the Georgian government's cooperation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), including the Fund's support for fiscal and structural reforms. The Georgian government administration announced this on Wednesday.
The parties reviewed Georgia's current economic growth dynamics. It was noted that the national economy's average annual growth rate over the past five years has been 9.3 percent, with the positive trend continuing this year.
I. Kobakhidze emphasized that the government's economic policy is aimed at ensuring macroeconomic stability, continuing structural reforms, and implementing strategically important infrastructure projects, including the construction of a submarine cable across the Black Sea and the development of the Anaklia deep-water port.
During the meeting, special attention was paid to the comprehensive reform of state-owned enterprises, which will allow the funds saved in the public sector to be directed towards the further development of the country's economy. –0–
