Cairo, April 1 (Xinhua) — At least eight people were killed and 17 others injured in a fire at a textile factory in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, the Egyptian state-run Dar-Elhilal online portal reported on Wednesday.
According to a statement from the Cairo provincial government, the fire broke out on Tuesday evening in the basement of a 12-story building housing a factory and its warehouse. Around 10 ambulances transported the injured to nearby hospitals, and six fire trucks contained the blaze.
Dar-Elhilal added that a security cordon was set up to prevent the fire from spreading into the residential area.
The prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
