BEIJING, April 1 (Xinhua) — State Council Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Zhang Han on Wednesday criticized the Taiwan administration for trying to decouple from the mainland in developing industrial and supply chains.
She made the statement at a regular press conference, responding to a media inquiry about recent comments by Taiwan's Prime Minister Lai Qingde, who is seeking to promote supply chain cooperation between "like-minded partners" to reduce the island's dependence on mainland China and safeguard its "competitive advantage" in the future.
Zhang Han disapproved of the so-called "supply chain cooperation," calling it merely an attempt to realize the aspiration for "Taiwan independence" through foreign support and, in return, to donate Taiwanese enterprises to others.
She also refuted recent comments by a Taiwanese official that denigrated the mainland's policy of strengthening integrated development across the Taiwan Strait.
She emphasized that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) administration in Taiwan, in its pursuit of "Taiwan independence," is deliberately inciting cross-strait confrontation by consistently slandering, discrediting, obstructing, and sabotaging everything that contributes to the development of cross-strait relations and the improvement of the well-being of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
Such actions, according to the official representative, are unpopular and doomed to failure. -0-
