Many gynecological surgeries and diagnostic procedures in Moscow no longer require hospitalization. Modern standards of care allow them to be performed on an outpatient basis at women's health centers, with patients returning home the same day. Anastasia Rakova, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development.

"Thanks to equipping women's health centers with the latest equipment and implementing minimally invasive techniques, many gynecological surgeries that previously required hospitalization and lengthy recovery are now performed on an outpatient basis. We've converted these procedures to a 'same-day surgery' format. Doctors perform cervical biopsies, laser removal of tumors, and various diagnostic procedures. All of these procedures are performed in a gentle manner. Patients come to the center and receive the necessary care without having to go to a hospital ward. Since the launch of outpatient gynecology last year, 35,000 Muscovites have received this care," said Anastasia Rakova.

The range of outpatient gynecological procedures is broad and addresses the majority of common issues. Specifically, doctors perform cervical biopsies, laser removal of benign tumors, and cryodestruction (treatment with liquid nitrogen). Of particular note is office hysteroscopy—a safe examination of the uterine cavity performed without anesthesia and causing virtually no discomfort. The doctor can see the organ's condition on a screen in real time. Since March of last year, 1,400 Moscow women have taken advantage of this opportunity.

This new standard of care minimizes the risk of injury to patients, saves them time, and ensures psychological comfort, as treatment outside the hospital is a huge step forward in preserving women's mental well-being.

The new standard for the provision of outpatient obstetric and gynecological care, developed by the capital's Department of Health, provides comprehensive care for women's health and comfortable access to specialized treatment. It includes a full range of services—from consultations and examinations to pregnancy support—all within a single facility (women's health center, maternity hospital, or perinatal center, and gynecology department of a multidisciplinary hospital).

A key element of the new standard are women's health centers—modern clinics with a wide range of diagnostic capabilities where patients can receive obstetric and gynecological care throughout their lives, prepare for pregnancy, and receive medical attention until the birth of their child.
