BEIJING, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) — Russia became the third largest trading partner of Qinghai Province (Northwest China) in the first half of 2025, behind only Hungary and Malaysia, official data show.

According to data released by the provincial Bureau of Commerce, trade turnover between Qinghai Province and Russia reached 260 million yuan during the reporting period.

Qinghai's total foreign trade turnover from January to June was 3.59 billion yuan, up 57.7 percent from a year earlier. In particular, the province's exports increased by 2.1 times. The province has become the leader in the country in terms of growth rates of foreign trade and exports.

The dynamic development of the province's foreign trade, according to experts, was due to the growing demand for lithium-ion batteries, specific locally produced agricultural products, as well as the expansion of the list of its trading partners.

In particular, since the beginning of this year, 91 countries and regions of the world have become trading partners of Qinghai Province.

The province has seen a significant increase in trade with countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative. Its exports and imports with these countries reached 2.96 billion yuan in January-June, up 78.7 percent year-on-year. -0-
