Ürümqi, March 31 (Xinhua) — The Turgat border crossing point in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region recently announced that the Bedel crossing point in Xinjiang has been temporarily opened since March 26. This temporary operation will last until the end of this year. Ultimately, once the crossing point is permanently opened, this will optimize the structure of land border crossings on the Chinese-Kyrgyz border and open a new corridor for cross-border transportation.
The Bedel checkpoint is located at an altitude of 2,754 meters above sea level in a mountainous area with harsh natural conditions. During temporary operation, the checkpoint is permitted to allow the passage of people, baggage, and passenger vehicles. Particular attention is paid to the temporary import and export of construction equipment, materials, and materials necessary for the cross-border road project, ensuring its smooth progress.
Truck driver Sun Dongqing, who has worked on the Chinese-Kyrgyz cross-border transport line for many years, noted that previously, they had to detour through other checkpoints—the journey was long, the costs were high, and there was often a risk of delays in completing projects.
"Now that the Bedel checkpoint is open, the distance has been reduced, a pre-registration system is in place, and special green lanes have been designated. The checkpoint procedures are simple and security is quick," the driver shared.
Wang Hongming, project manager at China Communications Construction Group Co., Ltd., said that previously, cross-border transportation of construction materials for the project required detours through other checkpoints, leading to high logistics costs.
"The temporary opening of the Bedel checkpoint, the introduction of a pre-registration system, and special channels have significantly simplified customs procedures and increased the efficiency of inspections. This has not only significantly reduced the cost of cross-border delivery of construction materials but also ensured construction deadlines and the stability of supply chains," he emphasized.
The temporary opening of the Bedel checkpoint will contribute to the further expansion of the cross-border transport corridor between China and Kyrgyzstan, deepening the interconnectivity of the two countries' transport infrastructure, and will also give new impetus to regional trade and economic cooperation and humanitarian exchanges. -0-
