BEIJING, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) — Power and communications have been restored in all administrative villages in Beijing affected by recent rainstorms, and the search and rescue operation for missing people is underway, the Beijing Emergency Management Bureau said Saturday.
Several rounds of heavy rainfall hit Beijing between July 23 and 29, killing 44 people and leaving nine others missing, a press conference said Thursday.
By Saturday morning, the problem with water supply in the settlements affected by the flood had been resolved, the aforementioned department emphasized.
Heavy rainfalls hit mainly the northern mountainous areas of Beijing, where the infrastructure of 40 towns and 312 administrative villages was damaged. In total, more than 300,000 people were affected by the disaster, and more than 24,000 houses were damaged.
In Miyun and Huairou districts, which were hit hardest by the downpours, communications were restored in all 190 administrative villages.
The number of temporary accommodation sites in Dongcheng, Xicheng, Chaoyang, Haidian, Shijingshan, Mentougou, Fangshan, Changping and Daxing districts is being reduced as more residents return home after their homes have been assessed for safety.
As of Friday afternoon, 10,876 people were still in 155 temporary accommodation centres, down 90,000 people and 669 accommodation centres from their peaks. -0-
