BEIJING, March 31 (Xinhua) — China's non-manufacturing purchasing managers' index (PMI) stood at 50.1 in March, up 0.6 percentage points from February, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics on Tuesday.
According to the agency, this indicates an improvement in the business climate in the non-manufacturing sector. A reading above 50 indicates expansion in the non-manufacturing sector, while a reading below 50 indicates contraction.
The services business activity sub-index in March was 50.2, up 0.5 percentage points from February. Sectors such as rail transport, telecommunications, radio, television, satellite services, monetary and financial services, and insurance were particularly active, with scores exceeding 55.
The retail, hospitality, food service and real estate sectors showed weak activity.
The non-manufacturing business expectations index remained relatively high at 54.2, indicating that non-manufacturing sector businesses remain optimistic about market developments. -0-
