Beijing, March 29 (Xinhua) — China's civil aviation sector began implementing new schedules for the summer-fall season on Sunday. The number of international flights will increase by 1.8 percent year-on-year, according to the Civil Aviation Administration of China.

During the current summer-fall flight season, which runs until October 24, 222 domestic and foreign airlines will operate a total of 121,000 passenger and cargo flights per week, which is roughly the same as the same period last year.

Specifically, 191 Chinese and foreign air carriers plan to operate over 21,000 international flights per week, a 1.8 percent increase from the previous year. The route network will cover 86 countries. Cyprus was only recently added to the list.

According to the plan, 61 airlines plan to operate 97,428 passenger and 2,538 cargo domestic flights per week. Thirty-four of these carriers will launch 434 new domestic routes, primarily linking northwest, northeast, and southwest China with eastern China and the central and southern regions of the country.
