TEHRAN, March 28 (Xinhua) — Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Saturday it shot down a U.S. MQ-9 drone and struck a U.S. F-16 fighter jet.

"IRGC air defense systems shot down an American MQ-9 strategic drone in the skies over Shiraz, and an American F-16 fighter jet was hit and damaged over the southern province of Fars, after which it landed at an airport in Saudi Arabia," Iran's semi-official Fars news agency quotes the IRGC as saying.

Earlier, the US Central Command reported on the social media platform X that a US Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jet landed at a base in the Middle East after completing a combat mission. No further details were provided.
