Tehran, March 27 (Xinhua) — Iran issued an "ultimatum" to hotel owners in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), warning that the deployment of American troops could make their properties legitimate military targets, the Fars news agency reported on Thursday.
American service members reportedly sought refuge in local hotels following Iranian missile strikes and joint operations with allied militias targeting American military infrastructure throughout the Middle East. The warning applies to all facilities housing foreign military personnel and takes effect immediately if such actions continue.
The report also claims that American personnel have been deployed to civilian facilities throughout the region. This week, US Marines were deployed to Djibouti International Airport via Istanbul and Sofia.
Earlier on Thursday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned hotels in the Gulf Arab states against accommodating American military personnel, accusing them of abandoning their bases and using civilian facilities as shelters. The minister compared the situation to hotels in the US, which refuse to book rooms for officials who pose a potential danger to other guests, and called on hotels in the Gulf states to follow suit.
On February 28, Israel and the United States launched joint strikes on Tehran and several other Iranian cities, killing Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, along with senior military commanders and civilians. Iran responded with missile and drone strikes against Israel and American military bases, and blocked the passage of Israeli- and US-linked vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.
