BEIJING, March 26 (Xinhua) — China's Defense Ministry on Thursday vowed to take stronger countermeasures against rights violations, provocations and propaganda by the Philippines.

This statement was made by the official representative of the PRC Ministry of Defense, Jiang Bin, at a regular press conference, responding to a question about the recent declarations of sovereignty by the Philippine Coast Guard over certain waters in the South China Sea (SCS).

"China has indisputable sovereignty over the Nanhai Zhudao Islands and their adjacent waters, as well as sovereign rights and jurisdiction over the relevant waters," Jiang Bin said.

The official called the so-called 2016 arbitral award on the South China Sea “completely illegal, invalid and void,” emphasizing that China does not accept or recognize it and will never accept any claims or actions based on this award.

Driven by selfish interests, some forces on the Philippine side are making every effort to incite conflicts at sea and fabricate false narratives, thereby undermining bilateral relations and threatening regional peace and stability, he noted.

"The Chinese side is unwavering in its determination to safeguard its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests," Jiang Bin added. -0-
