GUANGZHOU, March 26 (Xinhua) — Chemical maker BASF on Thursday fully opened a massive production complex in southern China's Guangdong Province, built entirely with German company funds and making it its largest investment in China.

The complex, located near the city of Zhanjiang and covering an area of 4 square kilometers, cost the company €8.7 billion (approximately $10 billion). This move demonstrates BASF's commitment to expanding its presence in China amid the country's push for greater openness, according to industry analysts.

The facility, known as the Verbund Plant in Zhanjiang, has successfully launched 32 production lines to produce more than 70 types of products, including basic chemicals, intermediates, and specialty chemicals with a wide range of uses ranging from transportation, consumer goods, electronics, household goods, and personal care.
