BEIJING, March 25 (Xinhua) — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday called on the international community to actively promote dialogue between parties involved in the conflict in the Middle East.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made the statement during a telephone conversation with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Ata, which was initiated by the Egyptian side.
B. Abdel Aty outlined his vision of the situation in the region to Wang Yi, noting that the Egyptian side is deeply concerned about the current developments. Particularly concerning, according to the Egyptian diplomat, is the potential for attacks and the disruption of energy and power supply facilities to lead to chaos throughout the region.
To facilitate de-escalation, the Egyptian side is communicating with various parties and actively encouraging the negotiation process, the Egyptian Foreign Minister indicated.
B. Abdel Aty noted that Egypt and China are comprehensive strategic partners. Egypt is ready to maintain close coordination with China and jointly strengthen diplomatic efforts to prevent the region and the world from descending into chaos, he added.
Wang Yi, for his part, stated that both China and Egypt are responsible major countries that oppose military operations not authorized by the UN Security Council and attacks on civilians and civilian objects, and also have a negative attitude towards the spread of the conflict to the Persian Gulf countries.
According to the Chinese Foreign Minister, the situation in the Middle East is changing very rapidly. Both the US and Iran are signaling negotiations, and a glimmer of hope for peace has emerged, Wang Yi stated.

Noting that China supports Egypt's continued mediation efforts to resume peace talks and end the war, Wang Yi said China is also willing to continue making constructive contributions to achieve this goal.
