Beijing, March 25 (Xinhua) — The 2026 Global South Financiers Forum is being held in Beijing from March 25-26 under the theme "Connecting Finance and Wisdom, Illuminating the Global South."

Xinhua News Agency Director-General Fu Hua said at the forum's main session on Wednesday that Xinhua is committed to amplifying the "voice of the Global South" and documenting the vibrant practices of countries in the Global South moving forward together.

Xinhua expressed its willingness to rely on the news agency's all-media information dissemination system and global presence to promote the steady deepening of financial cooperation among countries in the Global South and bring more "Southern solutions" to the formation of a new order of global financial governance.

Beijing Deputy Mayor Sun Shuo emphasized that the financial sector is a pillar of the Chinese capital's economy. He stated that Beijing will consistently adhere to high-level opening-up and actively expand the space for financial cooperation with countries in the Global South, focusing on areas such as further improving the business environment, strengthening scientific, technological, and financial exchanges, expanding cooperation in green finance, and deepening high-level opening-up of the financial sector.

Lu Lei, deputy governor of the People's Bank of China (PBOC), said the PBOC encourages and supports financial institutions to make green and low-carbon investments in countries and regions participating in the Belt and Road Initiative.

The People's Bank of China stands ready to work with all parties to promote high-quality development of green finance and guide global capital flows into green and low-carbon sectors, Lu Lei added.

Li Hongyan, Deputy Administrator of the State Administration of Foreign Exchange, emphasized that the restructuring of the global green industry opens up opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation between China and countries in the Global South.

As Li Hongyan noted, through high-level opening up of the financial sector, China is deepening cooperation with countries in the Global South in the green industry, sharing opportunities in the green transition with them, and contributing to global sustainable development.

Nicaraguan Minister of Development, Industry, and Trade Erwin Ramirez and Director General of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan Shahin Mahmudzade attended and delivered speeches at the event. The two-day forum was organized by the Xinhua News Agency.
