Baghdad, March 25 (Xinhua) — The Iraqi Defense Ministry said on Wednesday that an airstrike on a military hospital in Anbar province this morning killed seven soldiers and wounded 13 others.
According to a statement released by the department, the attack occurred around 9:00 a.m. local time (6:00 a.m. GMT). The targets were a military hospital in the city of Al-Habbaniyah and an engineering unit attached to the local command. The airstrike was followed by aerial shelling.
The dead and wounded were performing their national and humanitarian duties, the statement said. It added that rescuers are continuing to search for possible victims at the scene.
The Ministry of Defense called the attack a "flagrant and serious violation" of international laws and regulations prohibiting attacks on medical facilities and their personnel. The ministry also warned that such actions could be classified as serious crimes.
