BEIJING, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) — The combined domestic and overseas tourist flow to the tropical island province of Hainan reached 55.21 million in the first half of 2025, up 8.1 percent from a year earlier, the Hainan Daily reported, citing statistics from local authorities.

According to data from the provincial administration of tourism, culture, radio, television and sports, domestic and foreign tourists spent a total of 118.927 billion yuan in Hainan from January to June, up 8.4 percent year-on-year.

As for the tourism sector of the tropical city of Sanya, according to local authorities, its total tourist flow from January to June this year amounted to about 19.27 million person-times, an increase of 6.13 percent year-on-year.

The share of Russian tourists in the inbound and outbound tourist flow of Sanya in the first half of 2025 exceeded 236 thousand person-times, which is 278.9 percent more year-on-year, according to the Fenghuang border checkpoint at the Haikou main border checkpoint.

Hou Jiangxia, a representative of one of the travel agencies in Sanya, said that her company's weekly tourist flow is about 19,000 people. Guests fly to Hainan from Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and other countries.

"They especially like the sandy beaches, the sea, the blue sky and the white clouds. Hainan is very attractive to them," she emphasized.

Hainan's tourism boom is believed to be largely due to the ongoing optimization of its visa-free policy. China currently has a unilateral visa-free regime for 47 countries, as well as 240-hour visa-free transit for citizens of 55 countries.

A senior official from the Hainan Provincial Bureau of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television and Sports said the impressive performance of Hainan's tourism market in the first half of the year was the result of favorable policies, innovation in tourism products and improved service quality.

“In the next stage, Hainan will strive to provide tourists from all over the world with better, more diverse and attractive tourism choices,” he concluded. -0-
